GPS + Cell Phones = World of Opportunities

Tyler Knott Gregson | September 10, 2007

While the title above isn’t exactly telling us something we don’t already know, it’s good to find articles every now and again that simply confirm it.

The bottom line when it comes to GPS is that it is very “right now.”  Where instant messaging was popular, where social networking is Still popular, GPS technology is absolutely jumping into the limelight as the here and now technology.  I just read a pretty cool article that articulates further upon the why, the how and the what does it mean when it comes to being able to pinpoint exactly where you are, instantly on this great blue dot.

According to the article I just read, and here at WHERE we know ALL about this:

“Now users can conduct Web searches that pull up the things closest and most relevant to them. They can find the latest weather report, the closest ATM, the nearest movie theater, apartments for rent or the cheapest gas station.”

Cool isn’t it?  Now we want to hear from You…what kind of things do You want from GPS?  Want a Widget that doesn’t exist?  Sound off!

WHERE Widget of the Week: Earthquakes

Tyler Knott Gregson | September 7, 2007

godzilla.pngWhy in the name of all that is holy is my WHERE Widget of the Week the Earthquakes widget?  Simple you see, I have this weird personality tweak that makes me always think I’m feeling earthquakes.  No, I’m serious, you might think I’m just making things up, but I will honestly be sitting somewhere, sleeping somewhere, doing something, somewhere, and I will feel what I perceive to be an earthquake.  When I see feel, I mean feel, as in, feel them like John Travolta did in that movie Phenomenon.

Yeah, strange huh?  I get all woozy, dizzy and disoriented and swear that it’s an earthquake causing this.  Now, before you go accusing me of having something wrong with my head, my equilibrium, or even just being weird, here’s the kicker…I’m right, A LOT of the time.  Yeah, it takes a lot of convincing of people by going online, trying to find a reliable earthquake map, printing it out, and then proving my point, but when that time has come and gone, chances are good they, and I’ve forgotten all about it.  No longer friends, no longer.  Who’s laughing now.

That’s right, the WHERE Earthquake Widget does just that…it shows you an earthquake report for the last 7 days around where YOU just happen to be.  From now on, I feel one, I wait a few minutes, I pop open my phone and hopefully have proof right then and there.  John Travolta eat your heart out.

HAPPY LABOR DAY!

Tyler Knott Gregson | September 3, 2007

I just wanted to take this Monday to wish everyone a very happy Labor Day! Hopefully you’re reading this in your pajamas with a cup of tea in your hand, NOT in an office somewhere. Hopefully, you’re getting to not labor on this fine Labor Day.

That said, everyone here at WHERE hopes you and all yours have a very, very happy Labor Day!

Be Safe, Be Happy and Enjoy!
