What is XOHM?

chrystie | September 30, 2008

XOHM homepage

We are very excited to be announcing the launch of XOHM from Sprint. As the development partners to the XOHM project, we here at WHERE are very excited to see what the future of geobrowsing and WiMax holds for consumers. For those of you who are not familiar with the XOHM project here is a little background.

What is XOHM?

XOHM is Sprint’s mobile broadband service which allows users to connect in more places, more often and anywhere there is coverage. As PCMag put it, “It’s a new kind of Internet connection, like cable or DSL. But wireless”. Which means, no more seeking out the hotspot, the hotspot will be seeking you out!  WHERE partnered with XOHM to offer geobrowsing capabilities by providing location based content and the friend finding application, Buddy Beacon to XOHM subscribers. The content provided by WHERE includes location based information from YELP, Eventful, and Topix.

Is XOHM available in my area?

Since XOHM just launched it will have limited availability starting with Baltimore and then expanding to Washington D.C. and Chicago later in the year. Check the XOHM Coverage Tracker to see if the service is available in your area.

How Much Will it Cost?

The great thing about XOHM is that there are NO long term contracts! You can choose to pay by the day or by the month. No hidden or cancellation fees either. XOHM will be available in your home or office, on the go in the form of a mobile card or Both! Home & Mobile.

Check out the XOHM website for more info.

WHERE: An iPhone Application for the busy Real Estate Agent

chrystie | September 29, 2008

Gas Buddy Application for WHEREStarbucks Finder for WHEREYelp Application for WHERE

As a real estate agent in today’s market, you must be faster, sharper and more resourceful than ever before. It is your job to guide hesitant home buyers and sellers through the process using your experience, knowledge and all of your available resources. In steps the WHERE™ iPhone application. Best part? It’s FREE!

Earlier this year, WHERE was touted as an “irresistible GPS mobile application” by Boston.com and just yesterday TechCrunch described it as ‘having everything but the kitchen sink’.  WHERE’s location based platform coupled with a bevy of useful widgets make it a real estate agents dream application. Here are just some of the ways agents can use the application to get work done and houses sold.

1. Starbucks - Office away from the office. Need to sign a P&S agreement quickly? Want to take a client out for coffee to discuss their home buying needs? WHERE’s Starbucks finder can help you locate the nearest location. (Bonus - Go for the seasonal Pumpkin Spice Latte and you are sure to win them over)

2. Local Search - Perhaps you have buyers who have finally found a house they love and, unfortunately, it’s in an area that you are NOT AS familiar with. All you have to do is, bust out the WHERE iPhone app to help them find the closest dog park, chinese restaurant or elementary school.

3. Gas Buddy - I don’t have to remind you, as a real estate agent, you go through a lot of gas driving to open houses, home visits and buyer appointments. With the use of our Gas Buddy widget you can locate the closest gas stations to your current location (even when you are driving) AND find out which one has the cheapest gas.

4. Eventful - Welcome relocating clients with a wealth of information about the area’s local events, concerts and shows using the Eventful widget. This widget allows you to find out information about shows coming to the area.

5. YELP - Recommending a restaurant can be a tricky situation. What if they don’t like it? With WHERE’s YELP widget you can also find out what others have said about a certain restaurant and see how many stars it received.

While this is just a short list of how you can use the WHERE iPhone application to boost your real estate business, we’d love to hear how you have used it in your career. Tell us your story, leave it in the comment section, follow WHERE on Twitter or post to our Facebook fan page.
