WHERE on the iPhone update II
Well, I have finally sent the engineering team home to get some sleep. We have quadrupled our capacity to better handle the WHERE demand. We are also posting an updated version on the App Store soon. This will improve map rendering, and include a few optimizations to speed things up. Existing users, hang tight and your copy of WHERE will be updated automatically.
Again we apologize for the slow performance that you may have experienced. Please give WHERE on iPhone a try, and as always, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to drop us a line at iphonesupport@where.com.
Best,
Jerry

Hello a few of us are using this app. in the UK and having difficulty with some bit of it. e.g. we can’t find the buddy beacon feature? it’s also missing quite a few starbucks (not that it matters!) here in Cambridge (the original one not in Massachusetts). When it all works it will be a truly great app.! and i will spread the love night and day…

I just want to say that I’m playing around with all the social location based networks
like Where, Loopt and Whrrl and I really like Where. I like your approach of not making people sign up for anything unless they want to (specifically Buddy Beacon). The interface is nice. One problem I have encountered is selecting items on the map when they are close together… not sure what the solution is for that (prev/next arrows, etc) but that would be helpful.
Can’t wait for the updates like faster map rendering and the option to choose which services I want to show. Keep up the good work.

how do you turn off buddy beacon?!? i turned it on to look around, but i do NOT want my location blaring all over the place. this need to be a top priority!!!

Christapher,
You don’t need to turn off Buddy Beacon. The only way your location is visible to other users is if you set your status. Even then, it’s only visible to the people in your buddy list.

I just tried it out and it’s pretty nice, BUT my big complaint about it is that it only shows items near your GPS location. I’d like to be able to scroll the map and see items where I scrolled to - for example, if I’m going to be in a particular area later it’d be nice to know what’s in that area, regardless of where I happen to be at this very moment.
